Common Vehicle Protocol Analysis

Protocol analysis for the automotive and automation industry

Differential signal analysis is very common and important in the automotive, robotics and automation industries. In particular, the demand for electric vehicle protocols is increasing. For advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and automatic driving systems (ADS), measuring protocol for large systems and large sensors (including LiDAR/Radar) is required, such as RS485 (EIA485), SENT, CAN, LIN, Flexray, Ethernet AVB (MII), etc.

Solutions for differential signal analysis

TravelBus 2000 series 2-in-1 analyzer (protocol logic) of Acute Technology Inc. can directly measure the differential signal such as CAN physical layer, RS485 (EIA485), etc., and the use of bus analysis module can quickly measure a long time.

Measuring EIA485(RS485) & CAN2.0 & CAN FD with TravelBus

1. RS-485 (EIA485) is used as the physical layer underlying many standardized and proprietary automation protocols for implementing industrial control systems, including the most common versions of Modbus and Profibus.

2. Controller Area Network (CAN bus) is a robust vehicle bus standard that allows microcontrollers and devices to communicate with each other without a host computer. It is a message-based protocol that was originally developed for multiplexed wiring in automobiles to save copper, but can also be used in many other contexts. For each device, the data in a frame is transmitted one at a time, but in such a way that if several devices are transmitting at the same time, the device with the highest priority can go ahead while the others hold back. The frames are received by all devices, including the transmitting device.

The applications of CAN Bus:

  • Passenger cars, trucks, buses (petrol and electric vehicles)Agricultural equipmentElectronic devices for aviation and navigationIndustrial automation and mechanical controlElevators, escalatorsBuilding automationMedical instruments and devicesPedelecsModel railways/RailroadsShips and other maritime applicationsLighting control systems

Oscilloscopes and differential probes

In automotive analog signal measurement, it can be combined with the Acute TravelScope TS2212H oscilloscope with 16-bit resolution, which includes various protocol decoding and trigger functions (CAN, RS485, I2C, SENT, etc.), and the ADP series high-voltage differential probes.
